The first year of the program is dedicated to core courses that include a two-semester microeconomics sequence, a two-semester econometrics sequence, and one-semester courses in accounting and finance. Sanford S. Parker Prize. Established in 1980, this prize is awarded annually to a Columbia College graduating student who majored or concentrated in economics and plans on continuing his or her studies in an economics Ph.D. program within the two years following his or her graduation.

University of Chicago. The University of Chicago offers a PhD in economics. Students will study business topics such as pricing theories, commercial banking, and national income operation.
This PhD specialization covers applications of the disciplines of economics and statistics to topics of relevance for business or business related government policy.
